Mrs Allen's Corner
Each year, we take the whole school away on camp, and each time we go somewhere different.
We used to have to have senior and junior camps separately, but one year due to unusually heavy rain, we all ended up together in the bush and discovered it was much more fun that way! That was the year we packed all our food in wheelbarrow and forded the river seven times to get to the University hut up Trotter's Gorge.
This year we're planning to go to Naseby - one of the coldest places in NZ, at the coldest time of the year!! Why? Well, with our third term theme being simply "sport", we decided to issue a challenge to every child, to try a sport they had never had a go at before.
At Naseby, in July, there is an open-air ice-rink, for skating and ice-hockey; and there is a brand-new, covered rink for curling. Skating outside on a -5C sparkling clear winter's day, with snow lying all around and a cosy fire to go 'home' to afterward - nothing beats it!
So, we'll all be looking out our ski pants and jackets, woolly hats and gloves, thick socks and thermals. And then we'll all troupe up to the Maniototo - 21 kids, 2 teachers, and probably almost as many parents!
